COVINGTON, Ind. -- Clarence Edward Adkins, 70, of Covington Route 2, died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday (June 20, 1970) at Lake View Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient three days. He had been ill five years. Mr. Adkins was born in Fountain County east of Covington on July 19, 1899, to Allen and Mary McMahon Adkins. He married Elva Murphy on Feb. 20, 1922. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lowell (Marilyn) Dixon of Covington Route 2; three grandchildren; two brothers, Mac and Albert, both of Danville; and three sisters, Miss Mildred Adkins and Miss Marguerite Adkins, both also of Danville, and Mrs. Mary Edwards of Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a daughter. A resident of Mound Township in Warren County since 1922, he served as a member of the Mound Township advisory board for several years. He was a machinist helper at the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad shops for 30 years before retiring in 1963. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Covington. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. EDT Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, the Rev. Thomas Fox officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends will be received at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home Monday afternoon and evening. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
